| Description/Comments |
A special workshop for seniors and their families will be offered on Saturday, April 8, 2006, 9:00 to 11:00 am, in the Aliiolani Elementary School cafeteria, located at the corner of Waialae and 6th Avenues.
The workshop will address key issues affecting options for seniors who wish to continue living at home as they age, rather than having to move residence.
Workshop topics will include: financial issues of budgeting for rising consumer and medical costs; making your home safe and accessible; receiving assistance for home maintenance and yard work; housekeeping and personal assistance; social support and interaction with family, friends, and neighbors; available options (both paid and free) for day care and senior activity programs; assistance with a wide range of daily living needs; and alternative options when aging in place is no longer feasible.
Resource persons will be available to answer questions, including Pat Sasaki, Executive Director of the State Executive Office on Aging; Anne Chipchase, Coordinator of the Hawaii Neighborhood Outreach for the Aged Program at Palolo Chinese Home; and Dr. Anthony Lenzer, Elderly Affairs Coordinator for Senator Les Ihara, Jr.
Sponsors of the workshop include Senator Les Ihara Jr., Representative Calvin Say, and Representative Barbara Marumoto. Persons wishing to attend are asked to RSVP at 586-6250. The event is free, and parking is available.
