For the first time ever, the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival comes to Hawaii! A project of the Coalition for Quality Childrens Media, KIDS FIRST! films are free of gratuitous violence; race, gender, or religious bias; and condescension towards kids. Age-appropriate groupings of classic, independent, short and sneak preview films entertain through a balance of animation and live action, plus varied themes from different cultures.
Small But Mighty, ages 5-12, TRT: 74 minutes.
Onami (The Great Wave), 13 min
Claymation story of a young wrestler, Onami, who learns the art of meditation to help him gain confidence in his life.
The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, 10 min
Winner of multiple awards, an animated adaptation of the book inspired by the true story of Philippe Petit, a young French aerialist, and his daring 1974 high wire walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Centers. Narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Roberto The Insect Architect, 11 min
Clever and inspirational animated film tells the story of Roberto, a termite who likes to build with wood, not eat it. Roberto sets off for the big city to pursue his dream of becoming an architect. Sean Hayes narrates.
Little Blue: Live the Dream, 8 min
Sometimes a discovery ignites a passion and expands our horizons. Animated film about a young penguin who breaks away from tradition and pursues his dream. Despite the challenges, Little Blue learns to surf.
Going to School in India, Part 2, 32 min
Winner of multiple awards, a celebration of what school can be told through the eyes of children who go to school under different circumstances. Highlights Indias extreme landscape and the indomitable spirits of children. Four episodes: Going to School on Wheels; Going to School in a Tribe; Going to School in the Dark; Going to School on a Boat.
