The 61st Annual Kaimuki Christmas Parade, presented by the Kaimuki Business and Professional Association (KBPA), is taking place on Thursday, December 6 at 6 p.m. The procession begins at St. Louis/Chaminade University, continues along Waialae Avenue, and ends at Koko Head Avenue.
Two Diamond Head bound lanes will be closed and traffic will be contra-flowed on remaining lanes. Residents should expect traffic delays along Waialae and affected side streets.
"This is one of the oldest holiday parades in the state and we're proud to continue the tradition," said KBPA President John Kobayashi.
This year's participants will include Mayor Mufi Hanneman, the Royal Hawaiian Band, beauty queens, school bands, clowns, KBPA member businesses, and Santa Claus.
Parade viewing is free and open to the public. VIP seating located at the front entrance area of the Kaimuki Plaza (10th Avenue and Waialae) is available to major sponsor donors of $250 or more. In addition to receiving 4 tickets to a private elevated viewing area to watch the parade, donors will receive validated parking, light pupus, and refreshments. VIP section seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. For more information call 808-733-4047
Parade sponsors include First Hawaiian Bank, Ng & Niebling, LLC, and the Honolulu Board of REALTORS¨.
The event will also mark the official lighting of the Kaimuki Christmas tree on top Pu'u O Kaimuki (also known as Menehune Hill.) Each year, KBPA provides the lights and decorations for the Christmas Tree and Kaimuki Community Park. The Kaimuki Community Park organizes volunteers from the Hawaiian Electric Company to string the lights.
The Kaimuki Business & Professional Association was formed in 1946 to address the needs of Kaimuki's business community. KBPA sponsors a number of annual events that bring together businesses, professionals, and the community including the Halloween Costume contest, the Easter Egg Hunt, Celebrate Kaimuki Kanikapila, and the KBPA Academic Scholarship.
