Shippoyaki Workshop



  • Event Name: Shippoyaki Workshop
  • Location of the event: Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH), First Floor
  • Date and Time: Friday, February 22; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and/or Saturday, February 23; 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Participants will learn the art of shippoyaki, or Japanese enameling, in this three-hour workshop presented by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i (JCCH). Led by award-winning enamel and cloisonné artist, Kazuko Inomata, students will learn how to make their own one-of-a-kind ornamental pieces—such as earrings, pendants and brooches—in which various colors of enamel are used to produce unique designs on a base of metal or ceramic object. Inomata, who is from Osaka, Japan, is an award-winning member of the Japan Cloisonné Artists Association and has taught the art form for more than 30 years. Registration recommended by February 8.
