Public is Invited to Attend Upcoming Talk.
Dr. Noel Kent, of the University of Hawaii-Manoas Ethnic Studies Department, will be presenting a public talk titled Remembering 1965: A Watershed Year for America on Tuesday, March 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Aina Haina Public Library in Honolulu. Kents talk will be a fascinating and often nostalgic trip back to the year that saw the Civil Rights movement reaching an apex, President Johnson embarking on a war, and an attempt to build what was termed the Great Society. The tensions that arose from the collision among these simultaneous movements will be part of what Kent explores . . . along with the cultural roots behind these movements, including the flowering of the baby boomer generation. The talk is free and open to the public, and is supported by a Hawaii Council for the Humanities grant.
