Following the release of the updated Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan and the progression of SB2532 and HB2421 in this year's 2010 legislature, both related to sustainability; college campuses through the State are fully engaged in discussions and activities on how Hawaii will implement sustainable initiatives.

Students and faculty in all academic disciplines are jumping on the movement to better understand how their area of expertise will be impacted, and how they shall work independently toward a sustainable Hawaii.

Still a gap exists between the academic community discussing Sustainability and those practitioners implementing it.

This public forum bridges the gap between sustainable practitioners and academics. The event will start with a short (30 minute) film screening of the film "Huliau," based on the book "50 Simple Things You Can Do To Save Hawaii." This film is meant to be a catalyst for discussion and to motivate people about the issue of sustainability in Hawaii. Following the film will be a panel discussion amongst some of Hawaii's leading sustainable practitioners to highlight the importance of political activism and the role students and community should play in political activism in order to support this paradigm shift in Hawaii's future.

UPDATE:
Jeff Mikulina from Blue Planet Foundation has been added to the discussion panel for the forum on Political Activism in Hawaii's Sustainability Movement next Monday, April 19th from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. We look forward to your participation.

Due to the tremendous impact this has on all our lives, perhaps no greater assembly then that of politics can help navigate the vulnerability of our behavior toward a more balanced and healthier Hawaii.
