This spring Hawai'i residents will have another reason to look up to local law enforcement as volunteer officers statewide participate in Special Olympics Hawai'i's Cop on Top event. For three days, local law enforcement officers will spend their off-duty time perched atop 14-foot scaffolding at various Safeway stores on O'ahu, Kaua'i, Maui and Hawai'i Island. This year's 9th annual Cop on Top aims to drive funds and awareness for Hawai'i's Special Olympics athletes.

Officers will climb the scaffolding at starting at 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 29 and will not return to the ground till 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1. Last year's Cop on Top event raised $210,000 for the local nonprofit.

Also, throughout the month of April, Safeway shoppers will be able to donate to Easter Seals, Special Olympics and a select group of autism-related organizations in Hawaii as part of the company's annual People With Disabilities (PWD) month at their neighborhood Safeway.
