Psychological Recovery from Japan Earthquake & Tsunami
Psychological Recovery from Japan Earthquake & Tsunami
Honolulu, Hawaii, Monday, March 21, 2011 — The
Japan earthquake and tsunami was a tragic and disturbing event that
is continuing to affect many people in Hawaii who have family and friends in
Japan. How can we begin to successfully cope with the pain of loss or
uncertainty? How can we take action to strengthen ourselves for whatever
may lie ahead? How can we help loved ones in Japan? If we become
emotionally overwhelmed, we will become part of the problem and unable to assist
others.
The American Red Cross Hawaii State Chapter, in
partnership with the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii and Filipino Community
Center, will present free workshops open to the general public taught by
licensed mental health professionals who are Red Cross volunteers.
Sessions will be in English with materials translated into Japanese.
Goals:
- Identify normal emotional reactions that can be expected
in response to the earthquake/tsunami disaster.
- Explain how to use “Psychological First Aid”
for yourself and your loved ones in Japan, which may decrease the likelihood of
developing long-term mental health problems.
- Provide tips for both adults and children on coping and
how to recover by being resilient.
Where: workshops will be held on the
same date & time at 2 different locations:
- Saturday March 26, 10am to 11:30am at Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, Manoa Grand Ballroom, Ewa Room
Address: 2454 South Beretania
Street, Honolulu (www.jcch.com)
Event coordinator: Audrey Kaneko, 218-6728, programs@jcch.com
- Saturday March 26, 10am to 11:30am at Filipino Community Center (Filcom), Tech Room
