Goodwill’s “Call for Talent”

In Cooperation with HIFI (Hawaii Fashion Incubator) & HPE (Hawaii Pacific Entertainment)

Honolulu, Hawaii (February 7, 2012) — Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. (GIH), in cooperation with Hawaii Fashion Incubator (HIFI) and Hawaii Pacific Entertainment (HPE), will be holding a “Call for Talent” in support of the inaugural Bank of Hawaii presents Goodwill Goes GLAM! Talent Showcase and Treasure Marketplace.

The “Call for Talent” will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Ward Warehouse on the second floor at the “HIFI Coop” and at the Ward Warehouse conference rooms. Walk-ins are welcome, but those who register for the “Call for Talent” by Feb. 20 will receive priority line placement. Attendees are encouraged to bring in their portfolios for review and placement by our team of industry professionals.

The “Call for Talent” serves three purposes;
(1) Identify talent
(2) Match the skills to event/segment
(3) The opportunity to gain experience: It will give new talent and aspiring industry professionals experience in their field, mentors and networking opportunities - contributing to their job-readiness and possible fulfillment of community service or class curriculum hours. This is also an opportunity for industry professionals to connect with and mentor up-and-coming talented individuals while providing them with valuable experience.

About Goodwill Goes GLAM! August 23-26, 2012:
The inaugural Bank of Hawaii presents Goodwill Goes GLAM! Talent Showcase & Treasure Marketplace begins with an exclusive High Fashion Kickoff including a Gala Dinner, Fashion Show and exclusive Pre-sale access. This will set the stage for an unprecedented marketplace of more than 20,000 square feet of glamour and vintage items donated by retail partners and collected from Goodwill stores to support the nonprofit mission.

This major shopping and fashion event will spotlight Hawaii’s style industry and contribute to job-creation, while empowering attendees to learn more about Goodwill’s educational, employment and training programs. Interactive daily activities will showcase job talent, and "green" career pathways specific to Hawaii's fashion, retail and style industries.

Goodwill is looking for seasoned professionals and new talent to volunteer in the following areas:
• Retail support, sales floor recovery and stocking, Glam Stock pulling of inventory, sorting, production quality control and pricing
• Visual merchandising/interior designer – event marketing support
• Video production, videographers and photographers
• Social media
• Writers/bloggers – showcasing talent & job skills
• Stylists
• Models
• Hair & make up artists
• Fashion Show production
• Stage production, sound and lighting
• Security
• Administrative support & ticket sales support
• Construction teams
• Mobile app tech teams
• Event docents
• Event booth support

About Goodwill
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation that helps people with employment barriers to reach their full potential and become self-sufficient.

Philosophy
For more than 100 years, Goodwill Industries has championed a philosophy of community service through the power of work. In 1902, the founder of this philosophy, Reverend Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist Minister, took burlap bags into Boston's wealthier neighborhoods collecting donations. He invited community residents with disabilities and other disadvantages to help repair and sell the donations and used the revenue made through the sales to pay the workers. This philosophy is evident throughout Hawaii's Goodwill, and in Goodwills throughout the world.

Goodwill Industries International
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii (GIH) is an autonomous, dues-paying member of Goodwill Industries International, a growing network of Goodwill organizations throughout the world. There are currently 183 full member Goodwill organizations in the United States and Canada. Since the organization's founding in 1902, Goodwill has helped more than 9 million people. Globally, Goodwill Industries International announced its 21st Century Initiative to serve 20 million people by the year 2020.

Goodwill Leadership and Accreditation
Goodwill is led by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of civic and business leaders from the community. Goodwill has been fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for more than 30 years, and is certified by NISH. Goodwill maintains active membership in the National Rehabilitation Association, Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations, Retail Merchants of Hawaii, Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Aloha United Way, Hawaii Employers Council, West Oahu Economic Development Association, and the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce.

Funding and Revenue
Goodwill is rare among not-for-profit agencies because most of its revenue is earned. Our unique, self-sustaining system enables us to serve thousands in Hawaii each year.

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii is funded through:

Retail sales at our community stores
Service contracts (in competition with private enterprise)
City, state and federal job training grants
Support from individuals and corporations
