The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i (JCCH) is proud to once again present its annual Shichi Go San: Keiki Kimono Dressing on Sunday, November 11 from 10:00 am -- 3:00 pm at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i in the Manoa Grand Ballroom.

Shichi Go San, literally translated as "seven, five, three," stems from the Meiji era (1868-1912) when parents brought their kimono-clad children -- girls ages three and seven; and boys ages three and five -- to Shintō shrines and prayed for their children to have long and prosperous lives. Today this coming-of-age tradition has evolved to encompass all children regardless of their age.

Children can dress up in elegant kimono and zōri (sandals) and capture the day with a professional photograph at this traditional event.

Reservations are required. The cost is $80 (non-members); $65 (JCCH members). Fee includes dressing by Masako Formals staff, use of kimono and accessories, Shint blessing from Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii, and the portrait sitting fee with King Photo Service, Inc. Price does not include hair and make-up. Photos are a separate cost and are paid directly to King Photo Service, Inc. Photo packages range from $20 and up.

Registration deadline is Friday, November 2. Dressing slots are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with receipt of application and payment. The Cultural Center will confirm your dressing participation within two weeks of receiving your application form and payment. Cancellation prior to 72 hours will be reimbursed in full.

Parking is $5 with validation. Registration deadline is October 31. Dressing slots are limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with receipt of application and payment. The Cultural Center will confirm your dressing participation within two weeks of receiving your application form and payment. Cancellation prior to 72 hours will be reimbursed in full.
