A "Supplements for Seniors Workshop" will be offered at Aina Haina Public Library on Saturday, November 17 at 10:30 a.m. The free workshop for adults and seniors will be presented in the Children's Section.

Dr. Amy C. Brown, Associate Professor of Alternative and Complementary Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's John A. Burns School of Medicine, will conduct the workshop and share information about herbs and dietary supplements that have proven health benefits for older adults. Dr. Brown, a nutrition specialist, will provide an introduction to herbs and dietary supplements, discuss how to purchase herbs, the origins of herbal treatments, and reveal the best and worst herbs.

Dr. Brown, author of the best-selling college textbook "Understanding Food: Principles and Preparation," received her doctorate in Human Nutrition and Foods from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and has been a registered dietitian with the American Dietetic Association since 1986.

This one-hour workshop will include a question-and-answer session. Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.
