The Hawaii State Library will observe Money Smart Week @ your library (April 5-12), a public awareness campaign of the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Three programs will be offered.

PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM IDENTITY THEFT

Saturday, April 5, 2:00 p.m.

Karen Ho, a Financial Educator with one of Hawaii's largest federal credit unions, will share information on identity theft and how to protect yourself. This 45-minute program is suitable for ages 18 and older and will be held in the First Floor Reading Room. For more information, call the Library's Business, Science & Technology Section at 586-3481.

FAMILY STORYTIME

Saturday, April 12, 10:30 a.m.

Children ages 3 and older, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, are invited to learn about money through stories and crafts. For more information, call the Library's Edna Allyn Room for Children at 586-3510.

TEENS! SPIN THE FINANCIAL LITERACY WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Saturday, April 12, 11:30 a.m.

Students from the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Financial Literacy program will present a fun way to learn about saving and budgeting. Rosita Chang of the UHM Shidler College of Business and Fain McDaniel, a financial expert from one of the largest audit, tax, and advisory companies, will provide information about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship to teens ages 12 to 18. Attendees will have the opportunity to play games and win prizes. This 90-minute program will be held in the First Floor Reading Room. Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.

Loan Renewals:
In person with library material or call 733-8422, then press "0" -- have your library material with you when calling. For online renewals, use www.librarieshawaii.org and "my account" and your library card no.
