"The Music in Me" with Joe Green and Rick Smith
May 17th concert features music inspired by life on Oahu's North Shore
The North Shore's Joe Green shares stories and performs original music from his debut CD, "The Music in Me," in the intimacy of HPR's Atherton Studio on Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature original, semi-autobiographical compositions inspired by Green's love of Hawaiian song, especially the sound of the ukulele, with a little Southern flair mixed in. Accompanying Green will be master bluesman Rick Smith. Reservations may be made online at www.hawaiipublicradio.org/athertonconcerts or by calling the station (808-955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaii Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street.
Singing, performing and composing have been among Green's interests throughout his decades-long love affair with music. In 2010 he decided it was time to learn how to make his favorite instrument and founded Haleiwa Ukulele. Green is the long-time owner and operator of Surf N Sea in Haleiwa and has been a resident of Oahu's North Shore since 1977.
