World Jazz Vocalist Allison Adams Tucker Brings Urbane Cool to Atherton Studio Nov. 22

HPR appearance part of Tucker's April in Paris tour

Multi-lingual vocalist Allison Adams Tucker returns to HPR's Atherton Studio on Saturday, November 22, part of an ongoing celebration of the release of her second CD "April in Paris." The album and her Honolulu concert feature songs of springtime and new beginnings from around the world. Recorded in Paris on UNESCO's first International Jazz Day at the end of her last European tour, her latest CD includes international musicians and arrangers from five countries. For her live Atherton performance, she is joined by pianist Tommy James and local drummer Von Baron.

Tickets for Tucker's HPR concert "April in Paris" are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. Purchase may be completed online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawai‘i Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.

With a voice "supple as silk and smooth as cashmere" (eJazzNews) and "mesmerizing, whether in English, Japanese, French" (GirlSingers.org), Allison Adams Tucker creates a unique montage of jazz-driven melodies and rhythms in six languages that is turning heads. From Brazilian to straight ahead, French chansons to Mediterranean and beyond, "expect the unexpected." (Scott Yanow, LA Jazz Scene)

Tucker's debut CD "Come With Me" (Allegato Music 2008), co-produced by jazz guitarist Peter Sprague (Dianne Reeves, Chick Corea, Sergio Mendes) and arranged by Kamau Kenyatta (Gregory Porter, Hubert Laws, Earl Klugh, Patti Austin), received international acclaim. It was nominated for Best Jazz Album 2009 by the San Diego Music Awards, and continues to receive airplay on radio stations in 18 countries. Tucker performs regularly for audiences in Japan, Europe, Mexico, and around the U.S. Her voice can be heard on national jingles and video games, and her interpretation of "La Vie En Rose" is one to the top downloads on iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify worldwide.

Born in San Diego, California, Allison Adams Tucker began singing before she could speak. She was raised by classically trained musical parents, and began performing in front of audiences at age five. She studied piano, flute, violin, dance and voice from elementary school and holds a BA in Linguistics / Music Vocal Performance and an AA in Italian. Tucker's vocal palette has been colored by her experience in a variety of musical genres throughout her life, from punk rock to Elizabethan a cappella. These experiences led her to the world of jazz. Tucker's love for languages and world cultures also began at a young age, and she has studied and sings in six languages besides English. She has lived in Japan and Spain, and traveled to over 15 countries. Her passion for world cultures is reflected in the music she chooses today: the rhythms, melodies, and lyrics of Brazil, Italy, France, Latin America, Japan, and the U.S.
