Hawaii Kai Library Offers Irish Music Event and Movie Screening in February

Hawaii Kai Public Library will host free special events in February featuring an Irish band concert and a movie screening of "The Boxtrolls":

* February 18 (Wednesday), 2:30 p.m., Meeting Room - "Movie and a Snack: The Boxtrolls." An Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature, "The Boxtrolls" is the story of a young orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors who tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator (voiced by Ben Kingsley). "The Boxtrolls," a 3D animated fantasy-comedy film, is based on the children's novel "Here Be Monsters!" by Alan Snow. This movie is rated PG (Parental Guidance is suggested). Seating is limited and available on a "first-come, first-serve" basis. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Free snacks will be provided while supplies last. The Meeting Room can get cold; movie-goers are advised to bring a jacket or sweater.

* February 28 (Saturday) at 2:30 p.m., Second Floor - "Celtic Waves: A Celebration of Irish Music and Culture." Experience a performance by the Irish band Celtic Waves which plays traditional and contemporary folk music from the Celtic cultures of Ireland and Scotland. The band is well known in the local Irish scene for their lively blend of jigs, reels, and hornpipes along with songs and an occasional haunting aire. Their music is a festive blend of fiddle, old Irish flutes and whistles, mandolin, guitar, and bodhran (Irish drum). This one-hour event is suitable for all ages; young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

The Friends of the Hawaii Kai Public Library is sponsoring both of these events which are subject to change. Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Hawaii Kai Public Library is located at 249 Lunalilo Home Road. For more information, please call the Library at 397-5833.
