What about keiki (kids)?

We love kids at Honolulu Assembly!
There are Bible classes each Sunday at 9:30am for all ages led by caring and helpful teachers. Your child will enjoy learning more about Jesus through Bible stories, study, and learning activities.
Children through grade school have their own mini-gathering during the 10:35am Worship Celebration service. After a time of singing and prayer, your child will have the opportunity to go across the hall to Kids Church. There they will grow stronger in their relationship with God through Bible stories, praise and worship, and fun activities. You can rest assured your children are in a safe, secure, and fun environment.

The first Sunday of the month is Family Sunday and children stay in the worship service with their family to share in Holy Communion. If you prefer them to stay with you during the sermon on any Sunday, you may certainly keep them with you.

Our connection is found in our shared faith orinterestin Jesus Christ.

When you worship with us, you will find people just like youas well as people very different from you. Some of us have been Christians for many years and some of us are just starting out on this exciting journey. Some of us are deeply convinced about our faith in Jesus while others of us would say we struggle with doubts. This is a safe place, no matter where you are in your journey with Jesus.

We are imperfect people desiring to know more about, and grow closer to,

a wonderful and perfect God.All are welcome to join us on the journey!

Our Mission

Great Commandment

Jesus replied: "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself'" (Matthew 22:37-39).

Great Commission

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age"

(Matthew 28:18-20).

Our Vision

Love God ~Love People ~Serve the World

Our Desire

We desire to be a

House of Salvation

House of Praise

House of Grace

House of Healing

House of Love, Acceptance and Forgiveness

Our Dream

Connect

We dream of a church where Fellowship is welcoming, fun,

multi-generational, loving, and life-giving.

Grow

We dream of a church where Discipleship is intentional, relational,

and equips believers with God's Word to become mature disciples who then disciple others.

Serve

We dream of a church where Gift-oriented ministry is flourishing

as every believer discovers their God-given gifts and recognizes their privilege and responsibility to passionately serve others as Jesus served.

Go

We dream of a church where Evangelism is naturally lived out in our relationships as, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we show the love of Jesus, share who He is,

what He has done for us, and the Hope we have in Him.

Worship

We dream of a church where Worship is God-centered,

multi-faceted,joyful, passionate, and life-transforming.

Our Core Values

1. Jesus is our Message

We are committed to the preaching of Jesus. We are Jesus people, not religious people. Methods will come and go, yet our message will remain the same.

2. Grace Wins!

Grace, the unmerited and undeserved favor of God to us, compels us to value authenticity, love, and serving others in sacrificial ways. When differences arise, we lead with forgiveness and grace.

3. We Value People

Our heart is for ALL people because all people are loved by Jesus. We will embrace people wherever they are on their spiritual journey, pointing them to Jesus and His redemption.

We choose to make those on the outside feel like they are on the inside.

4. The Bible is God's Word

We desire to be a church of fully engaged followers of Jesus Christ that focuses on the essential truths of scripture by preaching and teaching the whole counsel of God. We will passionately pursue both grace and truth while being led and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

5. We Passionately Pursue God

Through His Son Jesus, God passionately pursued us and we seek to fully know and love Him. We have an eternal perspective and therefore pursue enthusiasm, passion, and excellence.

6. We are Spirit Led

The Holy Spirit helps us become more like Jesus and equips us for ministry.

We expect the Holy Spirit to change us from the inside out and we purposefully pursue

His gifts in order to serve in God's strength and not in our own.

7. Prayer is Essential

Prayer is vital to anyone desiring to truly know God. You can expect us to model a great reliance on prayer and emphasize its importance within the life of every believer.

8. Our Outreach is Global

Jesus commands us to "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations"

(Matthew 28:19). We recognize our privilege and responsibility to spread the Good News of salvation throughout the world by supporting those who go with our finances and prayer.

Our History

How did we get here?

A Dream

Honolulu Assembly of God was begun in 1974 by founding pastor, Harold Headrick. He was not only a pastor but also had a background in construction and a heart to build churches. At his memorial service, it was announced he had been involved in the construction of almost 100 church buildings in Hawaii, the Mainland, and throughout the Pacific. He started and pastored several churches here in Hawaii, including Honolulu Assembly of God.

The Early Years

Soon after the church's founding, property was purchased on the corner of Koko Head Street and Pahoa Avenue in Kaimuki. The building originally was a school but was converted into a place of worshipand eventually enlarged to the current building.

Changes

Harold Headrick's long pastorate lasted until 2001 when he retired and moved to the mainland. At that time, Dean Reid was elected to be the second pastor and continued until 2012 when he retired and Bryan Ashpole, current pastor, began his ministry here.
