It’s more than just the Food: Other Catering Considerations Proper execution of an event is more than just about the food. Here are some suggestions when considering with a potential caterer: Drinks Anyone? - Even if you plan to prove the drinks for your event, it is best to discuss drinks and alcohol with your caterer. Be sure to discuss what you want served, and what level of participation you require from them (bartender vs. self-serve). Ask them if they are licensed to serve both food and alcohol. They may discuss liquor liability insurance for each guest so be prepared. Waiters and Staff – Does the fee include staff for the event, or do you need to pay extra? Inquire how long the servers who will be assigned to your party have been with the company. Also, be sure to ask the caterer how their staff will be dressed or inform them of your preferred attire. Table Display and Serve ware –Do they have additional fees for centerpieces, floral arrangements and other decors? Check their website or request for photos of their buffet or typical food setup. Lastly, ask the caterer what they will be supplying: plates, glasses, trays, linens, tables & chairs, chafing dishes, etc and if there any additional fees for these too. Know the terms – Check with your potential caterer on their payment terms and cancellation fee/period, Down payment fee is usually 50% upon signing, with the balance due at a later date, usually specified in the contract. Have it in Writing –Speaking of a contract, make sure you check the date, time and guaranteed number of attendees and specify the dates up until which you can add or remove guests. (Consider the deadline for your guests to RSVP). They may change their fee depending on the number of guests you have. |
