About Us
Sports Yoga Hawaii was inspired by athletes and our belief that there's an amazing athlete within you! We offer athletes a way to incorporate yoga into their current training, in a language and method their bodies can understand.
Here, at Sports Yoga Hawaii, we go beyond traditional yoga and practice a more intensive style that looks at the way athletes move and how they train, and we incorporate it into a yoga based workout. When you incorporate Yoga into your training program, you'll benefit from stronger muscles, improved flexibility, better body and breath control and a stronger core. All things that will give you that competitive edge -- whether you train to compete or train for yourself.
We are located in Honolulu, HI and founded by David Onoue.
What is Sports Yoga
Our Sports Yoga program was designed for anyone who wants to get into the best shape of their life. We recommend that everyone start here as we'll introduce you to all the yoga poses and our style as well. There is no sport specific focus here. It's the perfect complement to any other activities you are currently enjoying. Who is this good for?
- Runners
- Tri-athletes
- Anyone who wants to try yoga out

Why Sports Yoga Hawaii
Truth is, between that boring new-age music, overly zenned-out instructors, and sloth like poses that leave you thinking, "this can't possibly be a workout," you're probably not a fan of yoga. That is until you try Sports Yoga Hawaii.
Designed by athletes and custom-made for sports enthusiasts, these classes are far from your typical yoga practice.
Are you more of a spectator than a player? Get off the bench or out of the stands and try one of our Sports Yoga classes. We offer a heart pumping, sweat flowing Cardio class. A muscle burning, strength building Power session. A relaxing Restorative session that'll leave you feeling limber and rejuvenated. And we didn't forget about you older folks either...we have a special Sports YogaFit session designed for those of you who, lets just say are no longer in our younger years.
Whether you're on the field, on the bench or even in the stands, Sports Yoga Hawaii will help you achieve your goals one pose at a time.

SURFING Back to the top
SurfYoga is a workout designed specifically for surfers. It focuses on strengthening your core, shoulders, arms and lats. It also will help improve your balance and flexibility, key to improving your performance on your board. The stretching exercises will focus on muscles that surfers use frequently when paddling to help recover and prevent any future injuries. Most of all, the classes will be full of students who love the water and share that same passion for surfing- making each class more enjoyable and fun!
YOGAFIT Back to the top
YogaFit is designed to improve the health, performance, and mental acuity of athletes or individuals interested in improving their level of fitness. Based on the ancient fitness science of hatha yoga, it blends balance, strength, flexibility and power in a fitness format. YogaFit overcomes the mystery of yoga by delivering a practical, user-friendly style, which is accessible, understandable, and doable by individuals at any level of fitness.
YogaFit classes involve linking several poses together to create strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. This technique is called vinyasa, which means "to place in a special way." In our YogaFit classes, we create classes that effectively work all parts of the body equally, creating an experience of non-judgement and non-competition for our students.
Our Sports YogaFit classes are taught by Certified Level 1, 2, & 3 YogaFit instructor Kay Kusumoto and are designed for those of you who are a little bit older.
