Description/Comments
Our Vision
A world without breast cancer.

Our Promise
To save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is a national organization with a network of more than 100,000 survivors and volunteers working through 125 Affiliates across the United States and three international

Affiliates in Puerto Rico, Germany, and Italy. Credited as the nation's leading catalyst in the fight against cancer, the Dallas-based foundation and its Affiliate volunteers deliver the life-saving message of early detection to thousands of women and men and continue to lead the way in fund raising for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.

Established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has raised more than $1 billion for the fight against breast cancer.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® has become the Foundation's signature fundraising event. Originating in Dallas in 1983 with 800 participants, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® now includes men, women and children of all ages and athletic abilities.

It is an emotional and exhilarating event that gives women and their families an opportunity to support the fight against breast cancer in their communities, to remember those who have lost the battle, and to celebrate those who are surviving. The Race has also become the largest 5K run series in the nation with over 1.4 million participants in over 100 races in 2008 and is a nationally recognized sporting event in Runner's World, USA Track and Field, McCall's and many other premier magazines and media outlets.

Our Core Values
Our guiding principles were born from a simple promise made between two sisters...
  • Inclusion - to embrace the uniqueness of every individual
  • Stewardship - to be accountable for our performance, individually and collectively
  • Honesty - to foster a community of trust and integrity
  • Openness - to seek out new ideas and new ways of thinking
  • Passion - to demonstrate personal commitment to our Promise
  • Empowerment - to entrust others and hold yourself accountable

It began with a sister's promise. It will end with a cure.
