CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY APPOINTS RETIRED NAVAL ADMIRAL
R.J. 'ZAP' ZLATOPER AS NEW CHAIR TO ITS BOARD OF REGENTS

HONOLULU--Dec. 4, 2006--Chaminade University of Honolulu announced today that members of its Board of Regents have by consent resolution elected Admiral R.J. "Zap" Zlatoper, USN (Ret.) to be its new chair. Zlatoper has been on the board since 2000 and recently commenced his third term as a board member.

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Board of Regents Executive Committee had accepted with great regret Gary Liebl's resignation as chair due to health reasons and at that time confirmed its first vice chair Zlatoper as its new acting chair. By Monday, December 4, the Board of Regents unanimously by consent resolution selected Zlatoper as its new chair.

"We are pleased that Admiral Zlatoper has accepted the position," said Chaminade University president Sue Wesselkamper. "He brings with him enthusiasm, a strong commitment to our mission and a wealth of leadership skills that will help keep the University on course during one of its most substantial growth phases ever."

Prior to his present assignment as a trustee to the James Campbell Estate, he was CEO and co-chairman of Sanchez Computer Associates Inc., a banking software company. A distinguished graduate of the Naval War College, the retired navy admiral completed his naval career as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. He has an honorary doctorate in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), master's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and George Washington University, and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from RPI.

Though he is resigning his chair position because of significant health challenges, Liebl, the former chair of QLogic Corp, will continue to serve the University as Chair Emeritus and regent. "Mr. Liebl has done an outstanding job in leading us through our 50th anniversary celebration year and the kickoff of our transformations capital campaign," said Chaminade University President Sue Wesselkamper. "Since my appointment as president, Gary has been a highly engaged collaborator, advisor and outstanding board leader."

Celebrating more than 50 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. The main campus is located in Kaimuki at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, with 10 satellite locations around Oahu military bases and Catholic parishes and schools.
