A&B FOUNDATION AWARDS $10,000 GRANT TO CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY FOR COMPARISON MACROSCOPE

HONOLULU-July 20, 2007- The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation (A&B Foundation), funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. and its subsidiaries, awarded a $10,000 grant on Thurs., June 28, 2007 to Chaminade University to partially fund a comparison macroscope for Chaminade's Forensic Sciences program. Chaminade is the only university in the country offering both a Bachelors of Science degree and a Masters of Science degree in forensic science.

"The comparison macroscope will allow our forensic sciences students the opportunity to develop the investigative and technological skills they will need to succeed in their careers," said Dr. M. Lee Goff, director of Chaminade's Forensic Sciences program. "We are very grateful to A&B Foundation for its support."

The comparison macroscope allows students to compare separate objects or separate slides. The camera-ready macroscope will also be able to record its information onto a computer. "Using the new macroscope will help forensic sciences students develop a wide range of skills from comparing bullet striations and finger prints to comparing soil samples," Dr. Goff said.

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. is a diversified corporation headquartered in Honolulu. A&B's major lines of business are ocean transportation (Matson Navigation Company, Inc. and Matson Integrated Logistics, Inc.); real estate (A&B Properties, Inc.); and food products (Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company/Maui Brand Sugar and Kauai Coffee Company, Inc.).

Celebrating more than 50 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. The main campus is located in Kaimuki at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, with 10 satellite locations around Oahu military bases and Catholic parishes and schools.
