Marumoto's New Years Resolution -- A Safe & Shiny Diamond Head Representative Barbara Marumoto (R) District 19 Office 808-586-6310 View Profile PRESS RELEASE By Michele Van Hessen "Diamond Head Monument should sparkle after several improvements projects", said Representative Barbara Marumoto. She was happy to hear that the Governor has just released $4.4 Million for trail improvements in the crater. This amount is in addition to $2.7 Million released earlier this year for rockfall mitigation in the crater and on the outer slopes. 600,000 tourists and residents visit Diamond Head yearly and many of the trails have deteriorated from use and erosion. The changes will widen trails and increase safety. Marumoto is especially gratified to hear that a new loop trail section will be constructed at the Summit Lookout to relieve congestion at the top. "District legislators worked hard to get the money into the state budget," Representative Marumoto continued. "With the recent replanting of naupaka along Diamond Head Road, the help of the Diamond Head Foundation and the future construction of a world class culinary institute at the old Cannon Club site, Diamond Head will "sparkle plenty" and be safer by 2010", concluded Marumoto.
