DIAMOND HEAD THEATRE OFFERS SPECIAL WORKSHOP SERIES
IN STAGE COMBAT WITH THOMAS McCURDY
- April 13, 20 & 27-

HONOLULU, HI (March 23, 2009) - Diamond Head Theatre, in its continuing effort to support performing arts education, is proud to offer a new series of workshops in Stage Combat with professional performer, Thomas McCurdy.

This course is designed to teach students the basic framework of how to perform a fight for the stage. Throughout the course, students will focus on how to do the fight safely while giving the audience the illusion of violence. The course is divided into three sessions, each focusing on different areas. Sessions can be taken independently of each other.

Session 1: Punches, Kicks, Slaps, and Pushes
Session 2: Falls, Chokes, and Hair Pulls
Session 3: Knife Fighting

Thomas McCurdy is an Associate Instructor of Stage Combat with Dueling Arts International. He has studied the craft for 6 years and is certified in 7 weapons including: unarmed, knife, single rapier, and broadsword. McCurdy has also been an assistant fight choreographer for the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival in 2007-2008 and assisted with some fight scenes in DHT's Les Mis ables.

The cost is $35 for one session, $60 for two sessions or $80 for any three sessions. Class size is limited. Students must be at least 16 years old or may be admitted with instructor approval. For more information and to register, call 733-0277 ext. 306.

Heralded as Hawaii's "Broadway of the Pacific," Diamond Head Theatre has delivered the best in live community theatrical entertainment since 1915. The theatre showcases Hawaii's finest local talent, frequently brings in guest artists and supports performance arts education through a variety of community programs, including the acclaimed Shooting Stars.
