In da 90's he helped kick off da academic scholarship on Local comedy. In 2001 he wrote his bookof Pidgin short stories in da genre of Literary Comedy. In 2004 he put together da first chapbook for feature Hawai'i Stand Up poetry. In 2005 he designed his 3000-level Pidgin Literature course at HPU around da idea dat students would be studying Local comedy as part of their academic texts.

Buss Laugh: Stand Up Poetry from Hawai'i features works from famous Local poets (like Eric Chock,Joe Balaz, and Juliet Kono), as well as works from famous Local comedians (like Rap Reiplinger, Paul Ogata, Augie T, and Ray Bumatai ), and works from Hawai'i's newest rising stars in da world of Stand Up Poetry.
