HONOLULU -- January 13, 2010--Chaminade University has partnered with Head Start in offering special continuing education and professional development opportunities geared for Head Start preschool providers beginning this January. Head Start staff members will have the opportunity to earn their degrees in Early Childhood Education in Chaminade's Adult Evening & Online Program (AEOP). Chaminade offers through AEOP both an Associate and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. "This partnership will allow Head Start providers to continue to be leaders in providing quality pre-school programs with staff that are properly trained and credentialed to meet the needs of Hawaii's keiki," said Morris Lee, AEOP director. Honolulu Community Action Program: Head Start is Hawaii's free or affordable pre-school. They are a federally funded program that provides quality services to qualifying preschoolers and their families. There are more than 80 Head Start classrooms, six home-based programs, and four Family Child Care Home programs located throughout Oahu.
