• Hawaii's Public Libraries Offer Temporary Service to Allow Online Voting for Oahu Neighborhood Board Elections

The Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) will offer a temporary service that will allow online voting in this month's Neighborhood Board elections at any Oahu public library.

Voters who do not have a library card will be allowed to vote on available library internet computers during normal library hours using a special "Voting" card. The voting process requires that voters enter the secure passcodes which they received in the mail, as well as the last four digits of their social security number, although HSPLS staff will not view this information.

A valid Hawaii State Public Library System Library Card is normally required to use the library's public internet stations, however during the May 2 through 20 election period, individuals without library cards will be allowed 15 minutes of courtesy usage, on a space available basis, to access the City and County of Honolulu Neighborhood Board Commission website: http://www1.honolulu.gov/nco/. Once voting is completed, the voter must end the session.

"The Hawaii State Public Library System is extremely pleased that we are able to offer our patrons the opportunity to vote online in Oahu's Neighborhood Board elections," said State Librarian Richard Burns. "By offering increased access to government, educational, health and workforce development information, our libraries are continuing to redefine themselves as essential anchor institutions in our communities across the state."
