THE FRIENDS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI`I

CANCER CENTER PRESENTS

THE 1ST ANNUAL "TREES BY THE SEA"

Celebrate the holiday season with beautifully decorated trees and a magical holiday display while also supporting UHCC's research and educational programs.

The Friends of the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center is excited to announce the 1st Annual "Trees by the Sea," a two-day holiday event to benefit the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center (UHCC), on December 6 & 7. A fundraiser cocktail reception will be held on Friday, December 6th, 5:30-8:30 p.m., and a public ‘Ohana Day is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th, 9:00 a.m.~12:00 noon.

Reminiscent of the popular "Festival of Trees" that ended in 2004, the new "Trees by the Sea" will give the public a chance to view a spectacular display of trees and other holiday decorations at the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center's Sullivan Conference Center at the Kaka‘ako Waterfront. The decorated trees, created by lead designer Ralph Malani, as well as other local designers, will also be for sale along with a wide array of wreaths, poinsettia, and other holiday décor, including a commemorative "Trees by the Sea" ornament for $25.

In addition, "Trees by the Sea" will also feature tabletop-size "Celebri-TREES" decorated with ornaments autographed by various celebrities, including the cast of "Hawai`i Five-0," international superstar Jackie Chan, and some other big names yet to be announced, which will be auctioned off at the December 6th fundraiser.

Companies and individuals may also sponsor trees and have their name or logo placed by their tree, along with other benefits. Sponsorship for 7.5-foot trees are $2,500, and $5,000 for 10-foot trees. Please contact Julie Kobayashi at 597-1400 or info@treesbythesea.org for more information on sponsoring a tree. All "Trees by the Sea" proceeds will benefit UHCC.

"It is my desire that ‘Trees by the Sea' becomes an annual sustainable tradition in Hawai`i," said Lori Phillips, Board Member, Friends of the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center. "The Friends of the University of Hawai`i Cancer Center believes that our world class research facility is uniquely placed in our community's hands. Through the celebration of ‘Trees by the Sea,' we as individuals, businesses, and community leaders can unite to support this amazing center."

"My vision for ‘Trees by the Sea' is to create a mini winter wonderland of glamorous trees," said designer Malani. "The trees will be decorated in several styles ranging from traditional to over the top! This event is for a cause very near and dear to my heart so I'm going to make sure the trees are amazing!"
