PAGEANT
A musical spoof of the American beauty contest
by Robert Longbottom, Bill Russell, Frank Kelly and Albert Evans
Onstage: June 28- July 23!
A long-running off-Broadway hit that sends up everything we've come to expect from beauty pageants, this is one of the rowdiest and most successful farces ever presented. Six beauty queens are pitted against each other in the Glamouresse Annual Beauty Extravaganza. Miss Texas, Miss Great Plains, Miss Deep South, Miss Industrial Northeast, Miss West Coast and Miss Bible Belt sing, dance and camp it up in gowns and bathing suits as they vie for the coveted title of Miss Glamouresse. A hilarious talent contest is equaled only by the zany “spokesmodel” event which requires them to hawk the sponsor's outrageous cosmetics. While les girls swirl around the charming host, judges from the audience nightly decide who will be crowned Miss Glamouresse. You might swear you were watching the Miss America Pageant except for one small comic twist which just proves that “beauty is in the eye of the ticket holder!”
The production is guest-directed by Randl Ask, a member of the original off-Broadway cast of Pageant. Musical direction is by Melina Lillios and choreography is by Andrew Sakaguchi.
Performing in the show are Keoki Kerr, Daniel Kunkel, Chad Lovell, Colin Miyamoto, Michael K. Pa'ekukui, Christopher Obenchain and Don Richards.
Pageant is supported by Play Sponsors Richard Aadland Trust, Alexander & Baldwin Foundation, Central Pacific Bank, Honolulu Publishing, Honolulu Star-Bulletin and KITV; and Season Sponsors AIG Hawaii, Cades Schutte and The Cades Foundation, Clear Channel Hawaii/KSSK, Commercial Data Systems, Hawaiian Airlines, The Honolulu Advertiser, Mid-Pacific Institute, and ResortQuest Hawaii.
Show times are Wed.-Thur. 7:30 p.m., Fri.-Sat. 8 p.m. and Sun. 4 p.m.
Special for Pageant: doors open for seating one hour prior to curtain; all seating is first come, first serve. The theatre will be setup in cabaret seating at small cocktail tables seating two or four, and in row seating. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages as well as light food will be available for purchase inside the theatre from a wait staff. Sorry, outside food and beverage items may not be brought into the theatre.
Tickets for the regular run are $30. A $5 discount is available for seniors and military; patrons 25 years old and under are admitted for $15. Tickets for any holdover performances are subject to increase.
