Chaminade University and the Hawai`i Vocal Arts Ensemble will present a free concert in celebration of black history month on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mystical Rose Oratory at Chaminade University. The Ensemble and will sing spirituals, gospels, and music by Duke Ellington to celebrate the beginning of Black History Month - an annual celebration that has existed since 1926. Joining the Ensemble will be special guest Georgine Stark. Ms Stark has appeared as Giovanna in Hawaii Opera Theatre's 2006 production of Rigoletto, Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, Mercedes in Carmen, and in various roles in HOT’s educational programs. Ms. Stark has appeared as soloist with the Honolulu Symphony in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. She enjoys performing Baroque and Classical repertoire, and is a featured soloist in numerous works of Bach and Mozart, including Bach's St. John Passion, for the Abendmusiken Concert Series with members of the Honolulu Symphony. Ms. Stark has also appeared with Chamber Music Hawaii, the Bach Chamber Orchestra and the Kona Symphony. Now in its fifteenth season, the Hawai`i Vocal Arts Ensemble directed by Tim Carney is known for its tonal beauty and imaginative programming. The Ensemble is dedicated to bringing professional-level performances of significant choral repertoire to as wide an audience as possible. Hawai`i Vocal Arts Ensemble is pleased to serve as chorus-in-residence at Chaminade University of Honolulu. There are no advance tickets for this free concert and those planning to attend are encouraged to come early as seating is limited.
