Shippoyaki Workshop
Location of the event: Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH), First Floor Conference Room
Date and Time: Saturday, February 24, 2007; from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Description of event: Participants will learn the art of shippoyaki, or Japanese enameling, in this three-hour workshop presented by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH). Led by award-winning enamel and cloisonné artist, Kazuko Inomata, students will learn how to make their own one-of-a-kind ornamental pieces--such as earrings, pendants and brooches--in which various colors of enamel are used to produce unique designs on a base of metal or ceramic object. Inomata, who is from Osaka, Japan, is a member of the Japan Cloisonné Artists Association and has taught the art form for more than 30 years.
Cost/Entry Fee: $20 for JCCH members ($15 for class, $5 for materials due on day of workshop); $25 for non-members ($20 for class, $5 for materials due on day of workshop). To register, contact the JCCH at (808) 945-7633, ext. 33 Registration deadline is Friday, February 16.
