Event Name: Cha Do¯gu Sale

Location of the event: Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH), Community Gallery, first floor

Date and Time: Opens: New Year's 'Ohana Festival on Sunday, January 13; from 10 a.m. -- 4 p.m.

Open until Saturday, January 26. Gallery hours: Tuesday -- Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description of event: Japanese tea implements or cha do¯gu of all kinds--chawan (tea bowls), mizu sashi (water containers), natsume (tea caddies), shifuku (tea bowl bags), fukusa (special cloths for wiping tea caddies) and habo¯ki (feather dusters)--will be on display and for sale at this first-ever Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH) event.

With utensils, tea sets and specialty equipment ranging from $20 to $250, proceeds will go towards the JCCH Seiko¯an Tea House maintenance as well as the three tea ceremony schools--Edosenke Fuhakukai Hawaii, Omotesenke Domonkai Hawaii and Urasenke Foundation of Hawaii--that practice this centuries-old Japanese art form daily at the JCCH.

To show how some of these implements are used, tea ceremony demonstrations will be presented at the New Year's 'Ohana Festival on Sun., Jan. 13 in the JCCH Seiko¯an Tea House.

Cost/Entry Fee: Admission is free. JCCH members and participating tea school students receive 10% discount.
