Teen Read Week 2008 - a national annual literacy initiative created for
teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers and other
concerned adults by the American Library Association - will be
celebrated at Hawaii's public libraries throughout the month of October.

Come join us as our libraries will host special free programs centered
on this year's theme - "Books with Bite @ your library" which promotes a
variety of books - from stories ranging from the supernatural to
"Macbeth" to "Shark Bytes" - as a tool for getting young adults to read.

The featured programs include "Bones," a darkly humorous exploration in
dance, music, and story inspired by the mystique of ancient human bones;
"Macbeth, Live and in Context!"; "Shark Bytes," a timely informational
presentation; and "Bamboo Ridge Tales."

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, the UH-Manoa Outreach
College's Statewide Cultural Extension Program, and Hawaii Council for
the Humanities, these programs are recommended for ages 12 and older.
