The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH) will present an exhibition spotlighting the California Hotel and Casino, a popular destination for many locals, and in particular, local Japanese Americans. Using vintage photos, articles, and film footage, the exhibit will honor Sam Boyd, founder of the California Hotel and Casino, as well as highlight the historical background of how the Boyd Gaming Corporation created a lasting relationship with the people of Hawai'i.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a special book entitled California Hotel and Casino: Hawai'i's Home Away from Home written by Dennis M. Ogawa, Professor of American Studies at the University of Hawai'i and John Blink, one of Sam Boyd's key executives at the California, will be released. The book will be published by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i through the University of Hawai'i Press. Books are available at the JCCH Gift Shop and various local bookstores.
