The Honolulu Marathon Clinic’s 34th Annual Turkey Trot
Ready, Set, Trot! The Honolulu Marathon Clinic presents its 34th Annual Turkey Trot, a popular Thanksgiving Day tradition, where the fastest runner rarely wins the top prize! This 10-mile run, scheduled for November 27, 2008 at Kapiolani Park Bandstand, awards prizes to those who finish closest to their own predicted finish time.
“Why 10 miles? Because we know that the mistakes we make in the first 10 miles of the marathon will haunt us in the last six,” says Marathon Clinic founder Dr. Jack Scaff. “The Turkey Trot is to be run at the same easy pace as the first 10 miles of the marathon; trying to hold back the pace when our body tells us to go for it—which can end up in ‘crashing and burning.’”
Registration is at Kapiolani Park Bandstand at 6:30 a.m. and the run begins as soon as all are registered, so participants are warned to arrive early. Each runner is given a tongue depressor blade on which they write their name and their predicted finish time to the second. At the finish line, the blades are collected and times listed.
Awards will be given to those coming closest to their own predicted finish time; also, there will be random drawings of finisher names for door prizes. Entry fee is $3; no watches, headphones, or pacing devices are allowed.
