COMPLIMENTARY SHOW TICKET

The Kaimuki Orchid Society (KOS) today announced that its 2009 KOS Orchid Show, Orchids for Everyone and a World of Miniatures, will be held at Kalani High School gymnasium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 17-19, 2009. The 2009 show will feature spectacular exhibits and sales of exotic orchids, as well as bonsai plant displays and sales. For 2009, the Society is proud to present a special handcrafted miniature Japanese Village display by member Albert Nishigaya, and will expand the variety and quality of flowers and plants from previous years.
The Society will offer its very popular Plant Sale and Garden Shop with a book sale, and educational workshops conducted by experts, including Orchid Repotting where attendees can bring in their less than healthy plant to be repotted (one plant per person, please!) New this year, the Society will be featuring free potting workshops for children 5 to 10 years of age, and Haku Lei and Ti Leaf Lei demonstrations. In addition, there will be The Honolulu Zoos Animal Educational Exhibit, The Lyon Arboretum Exhibit, The University of Hawaiis Dendrobium Breeding Exhibit, The Windward Community College Orchid Laboratory Exhibit, and The State Department of Agriculture Exhibit. This is an orchid show with something for everyone!
Plenty of free parking will be available, and a plant valet service will hold your purchases until you are ready to leave, allowing you to enjoy the show without lugging your purchases around.
The Kaimuki Orchid Society was founded in 1976, and currently has over 150 active members who meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Kilauea Recreation Center, next to Kaimuki Middle School, between Kahala Mall and Diamond Head. New members are warmly welcomed, usually with a free orchid plant to get them started!
Meetings feature local orchid experts who speak on orchid propagation techniques, and usually offer advice with hands-on demonstrations. Easy to understand special how-to techniques are usually provided and specimen plants and orchids are brought in for judging by an orchid master.
