Anniversary of the Honolulu City Lights Historical Photo Display
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Kahala,
Hawaii)
A photo display chronicling the 25 year history of Honolulu City Lights will open Monday, November 9 at Kahala Mall.
A photo display chronicling the 25 year history of Honolulu City Lights will open Monday, November 9 at Kahala Mall.
Presented by the Friends of Honolulu City Lights, the
City and County of Honolulu and Kahala Mall, the exhibit will be set-up between
Macy’s and The Walking Company and be open through Sunday, November 22.
Honolulu City Lights traces its humble beginnings to
1985 when the first 50-foot Norfolk pine tree was illuminated on the lawn of
Honolulu Hale. Over its 25-year history, the month-long event has grown into a
spectacular holiday celebration with one-of-a-kind outdoor displays like the
21-foot tall Shaka Santa.
The photo display will show how the large displays are
made and how they have been changed over the years.
Each year to help defray event costs, a Christmas
ornament is created by the Friends to highlight one of the outdoor displays.
This year there are two ornaments—a brass ornament entitled
“Hau’oli la Hanau” (Happy Birthday) featuring the Shaka Santa
and Tutu Mele, and a limited-edition silver ornament celebrating the 25th year.
Both ornaments are available at Macy’s.
