TWO PLAYWRIGHTS AND THREE COMEDIES FEATURED NOVEMBER 6 to 15

HONOLULU – November 3, 2009 - The Performing Arts Department of Chaminade University will present Paul Rudnick's I HATE HAMLET and Christopher Durang's FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS and THE ACTOR'S NIGHTMARE from November 6-15 in Chaminade's Loo Theatre located in Clarence T.C. Ching Hall on the campus of Chaminade University, 3140 Wai’alae Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96816.

Show times for Paul Rudnick's I HATE HAMLET are 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 6, 10, 12 and 14, and 3 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Produced and directed by Fr. Robert Bouffier, SM, Rudnick’s play I HATE HAMLET was originally produced at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City, opening on April 8, 1991. Meant to be a tribute to actors, the play is a comedic drama that takes place in John Barrymore's old apartment in New York City. According to Paul Rudnick, its author, the play "celebrates the theater, in all its artifice and happy dementia." Fr. Bouffier holds an MFA from the Catholic University of America, and has taught drama at the University of Dayton in Ohio and at the Boston Conservatory, in Massachusetts. He has directed and produced as well as performed in countless productions and has been active in Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Show times for Christopher Durang's two plays FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS and THE ACTOR'S NIGHTMARE are 7:30 p.m., on November 7, 9, 11 and 13, and 3 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 15.

The playwright Christopher Durang has written more than a thousand one act plays. FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS and THE ACTOR'S NIGHTMARE are some of his best known. His plays have been produced on and off Broadway, as well as nationally and internationally. He is especially known for his satire and dark comedies. Producer/ director Bro. Gary Morris, SM, is a native San Franciscan, has been directing plays for more than 35 years and has more than a 100 plays to his credit. He is part of a team invited to Chaminade University to develop performing arts classes and programs on campus. This is his sixth year at Chaminade as associate professor of theater and English.
