The Performing Arts Department of Chaminade University will present Fiddler on the Roof, a musical by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, at 7:30 p.m. on April 15, 16 and 17, and at 4 p.m. on April 18, at Mamiya Theatre, 3140 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96816. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children, seniors, military, students and Chaminade faculty and staff. For advance tickets, call (808) 735-4815.

Bro. Gary Morris, SM, well known in local theater circles for his various roles with TAG and Diamond Head Theatre productions, not only directs ‘Fiddler’, he will also play the main character Tevye, the milkman and father of five daughters, who tries to maintain his family and religious traditions as the world changes. Audiences will remember songs such as “Traditions,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Matchmaker.”

Timothy Carney as musical director and Brad Powell as choreographer join forces with Morris to produce what is sure to be a hit with Honolulu audiences who love great music, great dancing, and a powerful story offered in one production

BRO. GARY MORRIS, SM, a native San Franciscan, has been directing plays for more than 40 years and has more than a 100 plays to his credit. He is part of a team invited to Chaminade University to develop performing arts classes and programs on campus. This is his seventh year at Chaminade as associate professor of theater and English.

TIMOTHY CARNEY serves as associate professor of music at Chaminade University, where he teaches courses in Great Composers, Musical Theatre, and conducts the Chaminade Chorus. He is also music director of the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble, a select choral group in residence at Chaminade.

BRAD POWELL is an award winning director, choreographer, dancer and actor. For more than 21 years, he was the executive producer/writer for educational television. He has acted, directed and choreographed at all of the major theatres in Hawaii as well as on the mainland, in Germany, Samoa, Portugal, Japan and Norway. Powell has worked with Morris on several productions, including last year’s Music Man.
