Alyssa Moreau, Kapiolani Community College Culinary Arts Instructor and contributing author for A Dash of Aloha Cookbook returns to WCC for her second COOKING DEMO!

This time, Alyssa will feature three new recipes:

“DASH” is an acronym for Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension, a program of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute is a dietary plan based on scientific studies correlating healthful dietary changes to reduced blood pressure. Come to learn and Come hungry!

Fees: Members $10.00/ Non-Members $12.00

Limited to 20 people firm! Registration on a first come/ first served basis.

*This class requires the use of a sink for preparation and sanitation purposes. It takes place upstairs in Room 203A so participants must be able to safely climb up and down stairs. Registration is on a first come-first served basis with a maximum of 20 participants FIRM.

ABOUT DASH
DASH, or Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension, is an eating plan designed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. The plan encourages reduced fat cooking using more fruits, vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, poultry, nuts and low-fat dairy. Lean red meats and sugar are copacetic, but only in moderation.

The book starts out with an easily digestible description of the DASH eating and exercise plan, before digging into its collection of recipes. Created by the instructors and students of KCC's culinary school--which has graduated many of the state s top chefs--the recipes match the DASH ethos with ideas, ingredients and tastes largely familiar to Hawaii palates.

Each recipe even carries a nutritional label--yes, just like the one on every box of Pop Tarts--for an accurate reading of calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, etc. therein. --Derek Paiva, HawaiiMagazine.com
