Hats Off to the American Red Cross Event!
“Hats
Off” to the American Red Cross
The Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding its annual
Hats Off event on April 1-3, 2011. Off duty firefighters, military, Lions
Clubs, and other volunteers will take their hats off as a salute to the American
Red Cross and ask the public to fill their hats with donations. Donations
may also be made online at www.hawaiiredcross.org.
Gifts support the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross in your
community, across the country and around the world.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, volunteers will collect
donations at Walmart stores. On Saturday, April 2, volunteers will be at 6
locations on Oahu.
“In Hawaii, we respond to about 100 disasters
every year (one every 3-4 days) providing emergency assistance and emotional
support to victims of every day disasters like house fires and floods,”
said Coralie Chun Matayoshi, CEO Hawaii State Chapter. “We are not a
government agency and rely on donations from the people of Hawaii to provide
these critical services to our community. In addition to responding to
disaster victims with caring and compassion, we help prepare families and
businesses for disasters, teach lifesaving skills to 33,000 people a year, and
provide emergency communications for military service members and their
families.”
The Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian organization
which provides assistance for immediate emergency needs. All Red Cross
assistance to disaster victims is free. The Red Cross is not a government
agency but depends on public contributions to help others. To help the Red
Cross and its lifesaving mission, send a contribution to: American Red Cross,
Hawaii State Chapter, 4155 Diamond Head Road. Honolulu, HI 96816. Make a
secure online donation at www.hawaiiredcross.org
or call: (808) 739-8109.
In celebration of Red Cross Month, a time to recognize
the critical importance of the Red Cross in our community, volunteers will take
their hats off as a salute to the Red Cross and ask the public to show their
support through generous donations.

All volunteers will receive lunch,
