Kai Markell OHA Compliance Manager will give WCC a special hour and a half "see, touch and learn about MEA HAWAI'I, Hawaiian material culture from stone, wood, fiber and other natural materials, and their uses, which made up the utilitarian and religious life of ancient Hawaiians". You'll be able to touch and hold a variety of artifacts from ancient 18th century poi pounders to kapa beaters, a kahuna stone cup, an akua ka‘ai and other wonderful connections to our kupuna. Some you view are ancient, some modern and stone gods, a variety of examples of the brilliance and resourcefulness of the Hawaiian people. Also, come see the Pohaku Wanana o Pai‘ea the prophecy stone of Kamehameha. This is a hand's on experience. Meet Jeff Apaka at WCC at 8:00 a.m. to catch the City bus to 711 Kapiolani Blvd. and Cooke Street at the OHA building. Otherwise you may meet Jeff at the front of OHA building at 9:15 a.m. Cost for WCC members is $5 and guest's $10. Deadline is June 1st. WCC is invited to bring your own "brown bag & beverage" along.
