Do you want to improve your mathematics and memory skills in a fun way? Learn how to play "Hanafuda: Hawaii Style" at Hawaii Kai Public Library on Saturday, January 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This free program will be conducted in the Meeting Room (first floor).

Hanafuda is a Japanese card game played with 12 suits of seasonal flowers or plant cards representing the 12 months of the year. Helen Nakano will teach the basics of Hanafuda: Hawaii Style, a cherished island tradition once enjoyed in the plantation communities by children and adults of all cultures. Nakano will also present methods of teaching others the game and share myths and symbolism of the card designs.

This program is suitable for ages 8 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Contact the Library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
