Speakers:
Dr. Philip Bereano, JD, is Professor of Technology and Public Policy at the University of Washington and an activist concerned about the risks of foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs). He was present at the 1992 Rio de Janeiros Earth Summit, is the co founder of the Council for Responsible Genetics and represents the Washington Biotechnology Action Council. He helped draft bills in Washington State calling for the labeling of GMO foods.

Danny Bishop, former employee for the Honolulu fire department and taro farmer. Mr. Bishop will share his involvement in the GMO taro legislation and his concern for the future of our 'aina and food sources.

Dr. Phil Bereano, University of Washington, lawyer and 30-year GMO activist. Mr. Bereano will talk about GMO corporate public relations, the involvement of the Bill Gates Foundation in promoting GMO, and his support for GMO trade and international issues.

Dr. Noelani Goodyear-Kaopua, Indigenous Politics, Political Science Dept., University of Hawaii. Dr. Goodyear-Kaopua was involved in the GMO taro issue and will give updates on genetic engineering from a Hawaiian perspective.

I LOVE KAILUA!! Block Party

Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle's annual "I Love Kailua" is Kailua's biggest party of the year. This fundraiser is held in the center of town, and supported by Kaneohe Ranch Company, Ltd. Thousands attend to sample food from Kailua's best restaurants, enjoy all-day live entertainment, find the best crafts and original art, buy the most interesting plants around, and see your friends and neighbors.

We'll be selling our customer-favorite enchilada, refreshing jicama salad, baked goods and natural soda.

There will be FREE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT and lots of great ACTIVITIES like :
Handmade arts and crafts from windward artisans
Live plants for sale
Keiki activities by Kama'aina Kinds
Community information booths
FREE health screenings from Castle Medical Center

All of the proceeds from the "I Love Kailua" Town Party pay for major plantings in Kailua and their upkeep.
