Saloon Pilots Bring Their Top Picks to HPR's Atherton Studio Nov. 23

Hawai‘i's bluegrass band presents diverse and non-traditional repertoire

The Saloon Pilots, Hawai‘i's premier bluegrass and Americana music band, bring their intricate vocal harmonies and instrumental renditions to Hawaii Public Radio's Atherton Studio on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:30pm. With new band members who bring an infusion of fresh musical influences and inspiration, they will present an eclectic repertoire ranging from traditional "mountain music" to contemporary country to the songs of the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and the Grateful Dead. Reservations for this special performance may be made online at www.hawaiipublicradio.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaii Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street.

Members of the Saloon Pilots are Lesley Kline (fiddle and vocals), Kilin Reece (guitar and vocals), Paul Sato (five-string banjo and vocals), Mark Ransom (electric bass and vocals), and Russ Lundgren (percussion). This dynamic group of performers not only plays the music expertly, but carries on the tradition of entertainment and showmanship.

The band has opened for country music superstar Wynonna Judd in concert with the Honolulu Symphony Pops. They have also performed with Grammy-award-winning banjoist and composer Alison Brown and her quartet in their Hawai‘i debut. The Saloon Pilots have also appeared at many O‘ahu venues and are regulars at Big City Diner in Kailua.
