Help Wai`alae School Celebrate its 85th Anniversary!

WHAT: Help Wai`alae School Celebrate 85 years of learning with the Friends of Wai‘alae School Fun Fair & Silent Auction. Kid-friendly games, activities, a craft fair, a Country Store, a Silent Auction and multiple bounce houses await those who wish to celebrate this milestone for Wai`alae School, Hawaii's first Charter School. Additionally, funds raised in the Silent Auction will be used to support Wai‘alae Public Charter School in the 2014-2015 school year.

WHEN/ Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: Wai‘alae Elementary Public Charter School, 1045 19th Avenue

DETAILS: Don't miss the Friends of Wai‘alae School Fun Fair & Silent Auction this March. Try your hand at games of skill and chance, enjoy a variety of tasty treats including K.C. Waffle Dogs, and turn the keiki loose to jump to their heart's content in one of three bounce houses!

Entertainment by Grammy Nominee and Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winner Weldon Kekauoha, Wai`alae Keiki Hula and more add to the festivities. Moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunties and uncles can all browse through a wide range of arts, crafts and other locally made treats and treasures available for purchase at the Country Store or bid on special items in the Silent Auction. There will also be a special exhibition of Student Artwork.

Wai‘alae is student-centered school that honors the whole child. It is committed to nurturing a community of learners who strive for excellence and innovation; empowering all members of the community to actively engage in a democratic society. ABOUT FRIENDS of WAI‘ALAE SCHOOL
On any given day, at any given time, parents and community volunteers can be observed around our school campus being involved in children learning by helping the school, teachers, or students. They may be tutoring students, coaching, doing clerical tasks, fundraising, chaperoning field trips, or organizing and participating in projects and activities. Parents get involved either individually or through organized groups such as Friends of Wai‘alae School (FWS), classroom learning hui, and governance boards and committees.

Very often, persons from the community with no "child connection" to Wai‘alae volunteer their time, energy, and expertise to the school. Their interest in supporting public education and helping children are greatly appreciated.

The mission of the Friends of Wai‘alae School is to inspire active parent, family, and community support of and partnership with Wai`alae School to improve students' educational outcomes.
