Hawaii Public Radio's 2014 Atherton Summer Season opens on Saturday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. when Hawaiian slack key artists and songwriters Kawika Kahiapo and Keale come together for their first joint concert in the intimacy of HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio. The duo, both members of the Na Hoku award-winning band Kaukahi, will bring their exceptional vocal harmonies to a program that will include traditional favorites, innovative arrangements, and original mele (songs). Reservations may be made online at www.hawaiipublicradio.org/athertonconcerts or by calling the station (808-955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaii Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street.

Kawika Kahiapo was born and raised in Kane'ohe, Oahu and has performed professionally since age 17. He's dedicated his career to perpetuating the art of ki ho'alu (slack key guitar) through numerous recording projects, both solo and collaborative, and an active performance schedule. Kahiapo was named Slack Key Artist of the Year at the 2007 Na Hoku awards. He is a founding member of the band Kaukahi, 2007 Na Hoku award winners for Group of the Year.

Keale was born in the islands and raised in California's San Joaquin Valley. Since returning to the islands he's immersed himself in Hawaiian music and culture through his music-making and teaching. He performs with the group Kaukahi. Keale's first solo CD, Kahikina, was released in 2007.
