86 List Celebrate their 15 Year Anniversary

86 List is a three piece punk rock band based in Honolulu, Hawaii. They have been playing since 1999. They have released 5 albums independently and are know for their DIY ethic, hand manufacturing and designing all of their own merchandise. The music is more comparable to roots punk rock bands such as the Clash, Stiff Little Fingers and Bad Religion. They are know to be political in some of their music with a disdain for corporate America, racism, and homophobia.

The original and current lineup consists of Josh86 on lead vocals and guitar, Derek Hoeft on Drums and singing backing vocals, along with Otto on bass, also singing backing vocals. Kat Guzman will also be joining them on stage providing additional backing vocals and guitar.

Their most recent album, "Respect" is to be considered their best work, showcasing their finest work musically and lyrically. 50 free records will be given away at the show to the first 50 guests.

The 86 List's goal is to stay the course and exist as a punk rock band in Hawaii, hopefully shifting drone mindsets into action to make their community a better place.

Forming in 1999, 86 List played their first show in 2000, while Josh86 and Derek86 were still in highschool. "86 list" refers to a list in a coffee shop where Josh86 worked on the North Shore while he was in high school. It was a list of things missing from the shop’s inventory, and alludes to the 86 List's songs' lyrical content, which concerns things that are missing or should be missing from society. For the last decade the band has been a committed to the raw politicism that can be found in the bands that have most influenced them, such as The Clash, Bad Religion, and Operation Ivy. The band has focused on rare subjects not typically covered by Hawaii bands including issues surrounding The Asian Development Bank, police brutality, overpopulation, and teenage pregnancy to name a few. Disaster, the bands first cd, was released in 2001. It has been followed by Our Neighborhood (2003), Tattoo (2004), and 86 (2007).
“Respect” continues the thematic with songs that nod to First Lieutenant Watada, Civil Unions, and the ubiquitous subject of unity.

However, their lyrics on this record also reflect a maturity and consciousness of a band that has grown older in an ever changing music scene. "Respect" also reflects on the sometimes bittersweet nature of friendship. At one point Josh86 exclaims, “Cause I got more bad memories with friends than with my enemies, A fact I’m looking to replace with memories that I can embrace.”

Over the years The 86 List can be credited with some of Honolulu’s most memorable musical moments. Otto and the band have put on multiple productions of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Josh86 has worked tirelessly as a promoter and front man of both The 86 List his other band Black Square to support the live music
scene.
