"Standards and Other Delights" from Rachel Gonzales, Les Peetz in HPR's Atherton Dec. 6

One of Hawai‘i's top jazz vocalists Rachel Gonzales and longtime collaborator pianist Les Peetz return to Hawai‘i Public Radio's Atherton Studio on December 6th with an eclectic evening of "Standards and Other Delights." Backed by music veterans Dean Taba on bass and Scott Shafer on drums, their program promises delightfully unconventional arrangements of jazz standards, plus a mix of contemporary classical music, Sixties pop, folk music, and more.

Admission for the December 6th return engagement of these talented jazz artists is $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. Tickets may be purchased at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. The intimate Atherton Studio is located at Hawai‘i Public Radio, 738 Kaheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m. The Atherton regularly sells out and patrons are advised to reserve their tickets early.

Rachel Gonzales (vocalist) is a Hawai‘i native and widely regarded as one of the best and most versatile of Hawai‘i's singers and musicians. She is fluent in all musical languages, be they jazz, pop, or classical. She has performed extensively throughout the state, including frequent appearances at HPR, as well as at Duc's Bistro. In addition, she has performed at the du Maurier Jazz Festival in Vancouver, B.C., and at Ella's in Spokane, Washington with pianist Les Peetz.

Les Peetz (piano) has performed over the last thirty years in Hawai‘i, Washington, D.C., and the Pacific Northwest, on numerous occasions at Hawai‘i Public Radio. He has appeared with Rachel Gonzales throughout Honolulu and the Pacific Northwest.

Dean Taba (bass) lived in Los Angeles for twenty years and has extensive credits, including work with Mark Murphy, Sadao Watanabe, Bill Watrous, and the L.A. Philharmonic. Since his return to Hawai‘i in 2004, he has become recognized as one of the premier bassists in the state.

Scott Shafer (drums, vocals, piano, harmonica) holds a B.A. in professional music from the Berklee College of Music. He has extensive theatre, live, recording, and club experience in all styles ranging from Hard Rock, Bebop, Latin, Funk, Pop and R&B.
