HPR Presents "An Evening with Doug Fitch and His Songs," Atherton Studio Feb. 28

A concert of original songs by singer/songwriter Doug Fitch closes HPR's winter season in the Atherton Studio on February 28. Fitch, a fixture on the Oʻahu music scene for 15 years, will be joined by accomplished bassist Milan Bertosa and special guest vocalist Sunway.

A performing musician since age 8, Doug Fitch was raised in a rural mountain area in Colorado, immersed in a family of accomplished professional and amateur folk musicians. Fitch's soothing ballads, drawn from his own experiences, span folk, bluegrass, country, and island music genres. He counts among his musical influences Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, John Denver, and the Beatles. For his February 28th Atherton concert, he will be performing from his four albums, as well as new material from a fifth album currently in production. The concert will include his original tunes, such as "Aloha Kaneʻohe," from the album Paradise on the Ocean, written for close friends who were sad to move away from the islands, and "How They Did It Back Home," from the album Fitch Brothers: Live in Hawaiʻi, about the values Doug and his musical siblings acquired while growing up in a rural area, dwarfed by nature.

Tickets to "An Evening with Doug Fitch and His Songs" are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. Reservations may be made at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaiʻi Public Radio, 738 Kāheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.
