Artis Brothers Explore Atherton Studio's Intimate Space, May 23

Ron and Thunderstorm Artis offer positive messages in original soulful tunes

Brothers Ron Artis II and Thunderstorm Artis plan to not have a plan for their Atherton Studio debut on Saturday, May 23rd. Having created music together since their childhood, 28-year-old Ron and 18-year-old Thunderstorm will take the cue for their set list from that evening's audience in the Atherton's unique "living-room-like" setting. Their repertoire of strictly original songs, penned by themselves or by other family members, span genres of music from rock, blues, and jazz to classical and flamenco guitar, as well as the music of the urban streets (rap, R&B, and soul).

Tickets to this personalized concert by the Artis brothers are $30 general, $25 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID. Reservations may be made at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaiʻi Public Radio, 738 Kāheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Ron Artis II says of performing in HPRʻs 75-seat performance space, "I want everyone to be able to not only experience the music, but to feel the performers. And what we feel from the audience will also be what they hear."

About the artists

Ron Artis II is a musician/singer-songwriter best known for his work with the Ron Artis Family Band in Hawaiʻi. Named after his father, Ron Artis, he is the eldest son in a family of 11 children. Ron Artis II has been immersed in music since before he could walk, crawling across his father's piano at the age of one. He believes that "music is meant to be lived, as life is meant to be lived" and has been known to create new songs on the spot in his concerts.

Thunderstorm Artis is the seventh of the eleven Artis children raised on Oʻahu's North Shore. Home schooled by his parents, he started playing music at an early age. He now performs on seven different instruments.

Earlier this year, the Artis brothers garnered acclaim for both their Wanderlust Oʻahu appearance at Turtle Bay (in which they opened for Nahko and Medicine for the People) and their headline performance at the Honolulu Museum of Art's Doris Duke Theatre.
